How You Can Help > Camp Program HAWC Summer Camp Program
“From the day her father hit me in front of her, I felt my daughter slip away. She withdrew from me and her friends. She was so
quiet and sometimes aggressive at school. She and I are in therapy through HAWC and through them I found out that maybe she could go to day camp. She’s doing great in the therapy, opening up and is starting to smile again. But the best thing for her this summer has been camp! She comes home every day exhausted and happy. Her camp Tshirt is her favorite thing to wear now. Please continue to help other families. I am so happy the help was there when we
needed it.” Sara, mother of Jill, age 6
With the help of the community, every summer HAWC provides scholarships to camp for children who have witnessed domestic violence. Children who witness the abuse of a parent experience emotional and educational setbacks that can impact them for life. Traumatized children may have difficulty forming trusting relationships, engaging in learning and communicating effectively.
With the help of friends like you, we are able to send children to camp every summer. This year, there are even more children that could benefit from the healing that happens by going to camp or afterschool programs.
