As an anti-oppression agency that offers comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, HAWC is supporting the global activist movement of V-Day. Violence is a global problem that affects men, women, LGBTQ and children. One out of fourteen men has been physically assaulted by an intimate partner. 1 in 4 lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or queer people is abused by their partner. ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. On February 14, 2014, HAWC will join the City of Gloucester with activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and men, women, LGBTQ and children across the world as we express their outrage, demand change; strike, dance, and RISE in defiance of the injustices women, men, LGBTQ and children suffer, demanding an end at last to violence.
Please join us at 12:15 pm on February 14, 2014 at the Cape Ann Savings Bank Park at 101 Main Street, Gloucester. If you are unable to join us on Main Street, please take a moment to stand up in your workplace in silence and in solidarity on Thursday, February 14, 2014 at 12:15 pm for the millions of individuals across the world who are impacted by violence. Ask your friends and colleagues to join you.
