For those able to dedicate at least 4 hours a week on a regular basis, the following opportunities are available. Before beginning in your role, you’ll need to complete a 27-hour pre-service training. Now offered virtually, the training consists of 17 hours live teaching, 10 hours independent learning and a schedule of time to shadow staff.
- VOCA Court Volunteer Assist individuals seeking restraining and harassment orders in Gloucester and Peabody District courts as needed.
- SAFEPLAN Court Volunteer Assist individuals seeking protective orders in Salem and Lynn District courts, as well as Essex County Family and Probate. SAFEPLAN volunteers must also attend a four-day training in Lawrence through the Massachusetts Office of Victim Assistance.
- Hotline Advocacy: Answering calls on HAWC’s 24 hour hotline, for 4 or 5 hour shifts between 8 AM and 9 PM, Monday to Sunday.
- Spending time playing and watching over kids at the shelter or at the courthouses during survivor hearings.
**Our next pre-service training is scheduled to begin on September 10th, 2021, with TBD days/times.
