For those able to dedicate at least 4 hours a week on a regular basis, the following opportunities are available. Before beginning in your role, you’ll need to complete a 27-hour pre-service training. Now offered virtually, the training consists of 14 hours live teaching and 13 hours independent learning.
**Our next training will be a mix of evenings the week of November 8th & 15th, with one full Saturday session.**
- Hotline Volunteer answers calls on HAWC’s 24-Hour Hotline, guiding callers through safety planning, giving community referrals, and keeping a call log with other volunteers and staff members.
- VOCA Court Volunteer Assist individuals seeking restraining and harassment orders in Gloucester and Peabody District courts as needed.
- SAFEPLAN Court Volunteer Assist individuals seeking protective orders in Salem and Lynn District courts, as well as Essex County Family and Probate. SAFEPLAN volunteers must also attend a four-day training in Lawrence through the Massachusetts Office of Victim Assistance.
